Overview:
As LA members arrive at the gym, the uncertainty of its crowd level awaits them. Opening the outdated app to check in with their QR code, they miss out on exciting promotions and healthy offerings from guest vendors at the front. The app fails to provide updates on specials like a 3-day pass, available classes, and options at the juice bar. Additionally, longer-than-expected waits for machines or stations can be frustrating, particularly if they consumed pre-workout too early.

There's a clear need for improved connectivity and information-sharing to keep LA members informed about the gym's happenings. Furthermore, find a way to bake in marketing in the app to find new potential members to join who want to change their life to a more healthy lifestyle.

Objective:
Redesign the app and address the challenge of helping individuals whose health is deteriorating to initiate their journey towards a healthier lifestyle in a simple and straightforward manner. Many existing apps can be overwhelming for beginners due to unfamiliar data and complexity. Therefore, it is crucial to provide a solution that allows users to start with small, manageable steps and gradually progress.
Enhance the app experience for current members to be more visually appealing and user-friendly. This can be achieved by updating the user flow and improving the information architecture. The goal should be to maximize app usage and ensure that members find it convenient and enjoyable to navigate and interact with.

Solution:
Collaborate with LA Fitness, that offers a free trial and transform their existing app into a user-friendly and accessible platform. Introduce a groundbreaking feature that motivates and guides users who are eager to improve their lives onto the right path. Redesign the entire UI of the app and develop a user journey that accommodates individuals of all ages, allowing anyone to begin their health transformation. Also while enhancing the experience for current members.
Research Study
Embarking on a new venture or pursuing a different path can be daunting and overwhelming when considering the entire picture. However, by shifting the focus to one step at a time, the process becomes more manageable and achievable. It is important to emphasize the significance of small victories, as they contribute to building momentum, ultimately leading to significant accomplishments.
During our research, we observed that many apps provide comprehensive insights, including tracking skin temperature and oxygen levels. However, such abundance of data can discourage individuals who are just starting out.

The existing LA Fitness app presents several challenges. A staggering 9 out of 10 participants solely utilize the app for checking into the club, neglecting its other functionalities. The app's design appears outdated and rigid, lacking user-friendly features. Surprisingly, 8 out of 10 participants never venture beyond the initial screen of the app.
Interestingly, none of the study participants access the app outside the gym, opting to use Google to locate nearby clubs. The participants unanimously express a desire for a more welcoming design and streamlined navigation experience.

First draft of Home Screen.

During the brainstorming session for the Home Screen design, the primary goal was to create a feature that could be utilized by both non-members and anyone interested in fitness. This feature is needed to set our app apart from existing offerings in the market and position our gym as a leader in fitness innovation.
After careful consideration, I decided to move forward with the implementation of a "quick-walk" feature that always guides users back to their starting point. This feature offers three options based on the number of calories individuals would like to burn, calculated according to their weight, height, and age. Additionally, users will have the option to connect smart tracking devices for more accurate data.

This particular feature would be especially beneficial for individuals who want to take short walks during their breaks or throughout the day. Breaking down the desired calorie burn into multiple sessions, as opposed to a single cardio session, has the potential to burn more overall calories. This is due to the body remaining warmer after physical activities, resulting in increased calorie burning when these sessions are repeated throughout the day.
The underlying goal of introducing this feature is to capture the interest of prospective members and encourage them to explore the benefits of the gym's free trial. By providing an enticing experience through this feature, the aim is to motivate individuals and, ideally, proceed to become valued members of the LA Fitness community.

Usability study findings
Questions asked to participants.
Participants were asked questions about the current design and my updated version. They were asked to easily perform tasks in later stages, such as finding a class the gym is offering. I did two sets of interviews throughout the design process with 22 participants. Twenty two participants are current members. The others are interested in adapting a healthy lifestyle.
All participants found the quick-walk lap feature a unique twist to other walking apps. However, they expressed curiosity regarding how the calorie calculations were determined. Many participants indicated that they would recommend the app to their older family members due to its ability to guide users back to the starting point. Additionally, participants agreed that the app is beneficial for individuals who take walking breaks while working from home. The group unanimously felt that the app would benefit from incorporating more vibrant colors and making the main button more prominent.

Quick-Walk Lap

The quick walk feature of this app sets it apart from others as it caters to users of all kinds. It provides a convenient route that loops back to your original starting point. The app gives you the flexibility to choose from various options based on your desired distance and the number of calories you aim to burn in a short period.

Taking the next step
Once users have experienced the Quick walk feature a few times, they may feel motivated to take their fitness journey to the next level. The app effectively highlights the opportunity for prospective club members to make the most of the free three-day pass. When users are ready, the app provides a simple and user-friendly sign-up process to facilitate their enrollment.
Gym Tab
A yellow check-in button was added to the gym tab. When you check in you are inform of everything that's going on in the gym the day or up coming events.

Yellow check-in/QR scan button has been implemented as the main button in the gym screen. By checking in, users receive updates on all the current activities and upcoming events happening at the gym for the day.

Conclusion
By providing free access to the quick walk feature and assisting individuals in starting their journey towards a healthier and improved life, there will be a subsequent increase in gym memberships. The path to a healthier lifestyle begins with small steps, ideally leading to joining the gym. For existing members, the app's clean interface will increase engagement. The new design will result in higher attendance in classes, increased sales in the juice bar and online store, more client base for trainers, more participants in events and competitions, and the achievement of personal goals.
